Several major independent inquiries have gathered evidence relevant to the theme of my book in recent years.

They include:

A House of Commons Children, Schools and Families Select Committee investigation into assessment;

The same committee’s ongoing inquiry into the national curriculum;

The Cambridge University-based Primary Review, an independent evaluation of primary education;

The Nuffield Review of 14-19 education

The Children’s Society’s Good Childhood Inquiry.

The Sutherland Review, published in December 2008, offers evidence on the administrative failings surrounding national curriculum tests during that year.
